“Will Be Impossible for Them”

“And the Lord said, ‘Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do.  And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them” Genesis 11:6.  Who knew that in a story not often covered outside of a kids’ Bible class, that there could be found a way forward for the Lord’s church to thrive?  Throughout Scripture we catch behind-the-scenes glimpses of what’s going on in God’s governance of the world.  At the tower of Babel, God points to the people’s unity in nation and in language and purpose as giving them the ability to do all things.  If instead of pursuing rebellion but living as a coordinated body of Christ, what could the church do as one nation of believers, speaking the Word of God and seeking to do Jesus’ will, for the cause of Christ?  I’ve often thought of ministry as herding cats.  But I’ve also witnessed the combined force of five year-olds who made me helpless to wrestle them. Why do we not disturb hornet nests?  That’s what the Christians in the first century had and look at what they did!  If just the local church could unite in Jesus, His Word, and mission, what could we accomplish as one for Christ?
