Tell Me Lies, Tell Me Sweet Little Lies

“Tell Me Lies, Tell Me Sweet Little Lies”                                                   by Doug Kashorek

Perhaps you recall this line from Fleetwood Mac’s 1987 hit, “Little Lies,” about a person who would like to return to a toxic relationship if only for a day in order to be with someone who is toxic. This could be the theme song for this political season! We’ve watched a lot of sports or home improvement shows lately as just a little tuning into news channels has made us sick.

And it’s not just the candidates spouting lies. The media takes what facts there are and twists them to meet their political slants. It’s like a picture, similar to this one, that I saw recently with the headline: Snake Saves Fish From Drowning.

We know, however, that the real election of this age is not between Rehoboam and Jeroboam. Rather, it’s spiritual in nature and between the world and heaven. To “the Jews who had believed him” in John 8, who insisted that Abraham was their father, Jesus told them, “You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires” instead. So many, though, who insist that they believe and follow Jesus today are really following “a liar and the father of lies.”

Wouldn’t it be better to trust in the One who does not lie, who gives us “all things that pertain to life and godliness” through His “precious and very great promises” (2 Peter 1:3-4)? Unless your itching ears (2 Timothy 4:3) demand, “tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies.”
