"For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and
divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the
creation of the world, in the things that have been made.
So they are without excuse."  -  Rom. 1:20

After several days of heavy rain, I knew where I was going and what I was going to photograph once I got there. I headed to the forest behind our home looking for what I knew I would find popping up from the moist ground - mushrooms. And I wasn't disappointed. Various kinds and colors of mushrooms were everywhere, dotting the forest floor like jewels. I found this fellow on the top of a rotted stump. It was a cloudy day, so the forest was dark and the sounds of nature muted. In fact, the atmosphere was almost mystical, like a primeval landscape from a Gothic novel. It is no wonder that humans in every culture in every place and in every time saw the need to attribute what they observed to a higher power. However, modern man is his supposed wisdom has rejected any notion of, or any need for, a power beyond himself. But an inescapable fact still remains - something cannot come from nothing. Every effect must have a prior cause. And the first cause, the essential cause, must involve a power that is eternal and capable of creating something out of nothing. Belief in God is not a result of ignorance, but a result of logic. Who this God is has been revealed in scripture and what he deserves is honor. When humanity meets divinity in judgment, we cannot blame God for not giving us enough evidence to prove his existence or his power. If we would be foolish enough to try this defense, even the mushrooms of the forest will be enough to condemn us. All of creation demands an explanation. Better to honor and praise God for what he has done now, than to try to come up with an excuse for not doing so later.  -  John
